UPDATES. AGM report back. Very many thanks to those 26 members who took the time to respond to our email AGM. The “attendance” was up on normal and we didn’t even provide tea and cake! The Minutes are attached for your records. Welcome to Mark, Whinny and Jordyn Orpen who have just joined us. A big thank-you to most of our 2020 members who have renewed their membership this year.

We were sorry to read in the FOSAGAMS newsletter 1 of 2021 that Jopie Kotzé of Springbok Lodge died of natural causes on February 3rd this year. Almost everyone who passed through Springbok stopped at his café for a snack, to browse the wonderful selection of mineral-related books, or just to look at his extensive mineral collection.

Put on your dark glasses! This month we are fluorescing like crazy with an article on the Sterling Mine; local Yooperlites and questionable feldspar; a UV photo essay; and another on using UV light for gem identification.

There is a field trip memory too. Bruce Cairncross responded to Peter’s article last month, and sent us his best-in-the-world mineral specimen memories.

NEXT MONTH WE SHALL FEATURE GARNETS – SHARE YOUR STORIES WITH US.

We are waiting for a photo of your own favourite mineral specimen for the front page. Send it to us soon!!
