We are a Non-Profit Organisation, and a hobby club run by volunteers. Our Constitution states that “the objects of the club shall be to promote and support interest in, knowledge of, and appreciation for mineralogy, geology and other sciences and arts relating to lapidary craft, and to pursue appropriate initiatives in furtherance of such objects.”

Our club motto is ”Omnem Movere Lapidem - leave no stone unturned!”

The registered name of the club remains the Mineralogical Society of Southern Africa as it was when founded in 1962. However, for ease of identification and advertising, in 2005 it was changed to the Cape Town Gem & Mineral Club.
