A Community of Rockhounds
This website is the digital home of the Cape Town Gem & Mineral Club, a non-profit society that has brought together mineral collectors, lapidary enthusiasts and earth-science lovers since 1962. It gathers everything the club does into one place: a diary of Open Days, workshops, outings and field trips, an archive of monthly newsletters, a growing glossary of minerals, educational articles, a gallery of specimens, a shop for club items and memberships, and even a Crystal Mining Adventure game.
It is made for anyone curious about rocks, crystals and gemstones. Complete beginners can browse the diary and the FAQ to find out how to visit an Open Day, while existing members sign in to manage their membership, renew subscriptions and keep their contact details up to date. Teachers, students and hobbyists will find the education and glossary sections useful references.
The site is built and maintained for the club by its volunteer committee and members, drawing on the knowledge of the club's own mineralogists and long-standing collectors. Every fact, photograph and event listing comes from people who spend their weekends in the field collecting, cutting and studying specimens.
